Block Print Kantha - Mughal Garden
A hand stitched kantha blanket that has been over hand block printed to carry the air of a full Mughal garden across its surface - cypress trees rising in neat rows, marigolds scattered like offerings, blue florals and fine botanical stems trailing between them across a ground of soft ivory.
The marigold is no accident. In India it is the flower of celebration, of welcome, of the sacred and the everyday at once. To have it scattered across something you bring into your home feels intentional.
Lightweight and deeply beautiful. At home folded across a bed, draped over a sofa, or laid flat on a table as something close to art.
Every Kantha is one of a kind and whilst this print is a repeatable block pint - the vintage blanket it is printed onto is not.
Made by women in small cooperatives, working with fabric and motifs that carry centuries of craft behind them.
Dimensions/care note: Approximately 150 × 220 cm. 4ft x 7 ft
Variation in colour, print registration and stitching is part of the piece — evidence of the hand, not a flaw in it.
Care Instructions
Block-printed and hand-stitched. Reclaimed cloth cotton. Wash cold and alone — it deserves the space. Tumble dry low, or leave it to dry in the air. One of a kind.
